Daniel Merriam

We'd tried for years to attend one of Daniel Merriam's July galley openings at the Abacus in Boothbay, but always had other commitments. This year we made it, and though our tastes have changed somewhat, we were still enthralled by his new work. We also noticed that we can no longer afford his art. Prices ranged from eight thousand to fifty.

My parents early on after moving back to Albuquerque fell in love with the landscape and still life work of Michael McCullough and acquired numerous pieces. Many years later they attended a gallery showing and met him, had him sign a print they were buying. He expressed his gratitude for their early and abiding interest in his work, and they joked that they could no longer afford his pieces. He glanced about at the works ranging in the same prices you indicated for Merriam's pieces and looked up at them laughing and said, "Neither can I!"

Good lord...I've gotten myself all involved in a Red Sox blog and I'm exhausted and I have a headache. This whole Manny thing had me completely on edge. Dope. I need the serenity of my favorite blog to calm me down. The canoe shot helps. I love your story Adam. At first I thought you were going to say he'd offer up a discount. So what cost $50,000? Must have been one huge canvas.
