No Fishing

Jim, of Katahdin Air, the man who flies what Chris refers to as Fred Flinstone’s plane, called me yesterday to ask, “Do you realize fishing season ends the 30th, the day you guys are going into Rainbow Lake?’

It seems as soon as we cross the state line, The Maine Mantra Question we get asked is, “You huntin’?” or “You fishin’?" Why a bunch of guys would wander off into the woods without the intent of bringing back something dead is unfathomable.

“Jim, you must not remember us. We’re the guys who go up there and do nothing. We don’t care that it’ll be out of season.”

“I guess I didn’t recognize your name.”

“You’ve flown us into Henderson Pond and the Antler Camps. When you see us coming, you run the other way because we bring so much gear."

"Oh, now I remember."

A must read website.

"Try again" (gotta scroll down quite a bit ... )comes closest to my own (unframed) response to the moron to whom Mike links us. Not that I'm not capable of misanthropic benders myself, but this ranter's vent is prolifically vapid.

Alas that none of the commenters whose responses I read address the biggest pro, the humanistic aspects, which Mike's blog embodies. This doofus seems to thing all bloggers just do what he does -- vent and beat dead horses ...

It's just a troll. A blog ranting about blogs is a little hard to accept as credible.

It's not that I don't appreciate a defensive stand, but two of my funniest friends found no humor in being called pretentious twats? No cracked smile over "... You're all latte-sipping, iMac-using, suburban-living tertiary-industry-working WASPs who offer absolutely no new insights on anything..."

Okay, so maybe I did shoulder this blog out from under his curosive criticism...still there are inevitable comparisons.

rakkity, when do we get a photo of your mini posing as laptop? And have you considered a skin?

Posted by michael.

It took me some googling before I figured out what a mini skin would be. At skinit.com you can even submit your own design for the skin. Maybe I'll send them my wrist X-ray. ;-)

After my thorough explanation of how one shops the Christmas Tree Shop, this one says we offer "absolutely no new insights on anything". Fool.

Kuro5hin has been around since before weblogs were (popular and) blogs. The article, in addition to being hilarious makes a lot of valid points.

Everyone should program their own 'web applications' (not sure what the buzzword is these days). It builds character. It allows customization and better site integrations.

Does movable type work perfectly for Mike's blog or does Mike have to make his blog work well with movable type?

Anyhow, there's no need to be defensive. Clearly James Joyce was talking about all those other blogs, not Mike's.

rakkity - precisely my thoughts.

been there - Diane derided me for not knowing that was your tutorial.

haha - Where you been? I feel like my brain froze the day you went off to the land of lakes and butter. And that was years ago.

Oh and BTW, 10/1 is the first day of the season for grouse, quail, pheasant, squirrel and rabbit -- the small stuff, where they shoot first and ask questions later ... Deer's still in season (for bowhunters only -- ouch), it's the last day of one moose season before the second opens up 10 days later, and of course, it's bear season. At least the fish can take a breather ...

I'll try to remember my white gloves.

Or just a nice baseball cap with white brim worn backwards ...

If I send you with one of those flourescent orange vests, will you wear it? (I know you love orange. How bout an orange and black flourescent vest?)
