La Rad's Matthew, age eight:
Matthew: “You know what I was thinking about at recess?”
Me: “What?”
Matthew” “The cycle of credit card debt”.
Our Matthew, age eighteen:
Groggy from his late afternoon nap, he stumbles down from his bedroom, somewhat ready for dinner. It's cold outside, it's cold inside, and he's dressed in a short sleeved shirt. Matt looks at the wood stove and asks, "Why isn't that on?"
What kind of mother would let their eight-year-old have a credit card? (Kidding, Chris ... ).
And yeah, oh great provider and wood-cutter(though not-so-great splitter .. ), why the hairy heck not?
Posted by anonymous.Since he's grasping the notion of debt we figure it's early enough to start training him to save, save, save so the care and keeping of Mom and Dad won't one day cause debt or even bankruptcy.
I love that your Matt took a late afternoon nap on a chilly day. Sounds wonderful. And as anon said, why in the world wasn't the fire blazing for the young lad. Sheesh.
Posted by La Rad.Pity that poor boy with no hands and a non-sympathetic father. It is only of late that he's been filling the ice box with food of his own choosing. Someday he might be able to walk all the way out to the side porch and retrieve a log or three.
"Not so great splitter.." Did I set that one up?

Posted by anon.Leaving one to wonder: Just how did unsympathetic Dad respond to Matthew the elder?
Came here looking for the log-splitting tale, but found only glancing (sic) references.
